Shrinking Chinese Economy

The economy of China shrinked in the first quarter of this year. This was the first time since China started to record its quarterly economic growth in 1992, that the economy shrinked. It is mostly due to the lockdown due to the covid-19 pandemic. Even though China has slowly started to come back, the over all figures for the year will probably be bad.

It is not that I am happy about shrinking economies, but some people say that the growth of the Chinese economy is what keeps the Communist party and its dictatorship in power. If the economy would not recover fast enough, who knows what will happen? Perhaps the Chinese people will rise against its communistic overlords? Perhaps an uprisning would be the first step towards democracy and freedom for the Chinese people? If so, there may be something good about the shrinking economy.
