Coffee Break

Paula went for a walk with her mother this afternoon. Then they came home tous, and took a coffee break with Daniel. I was there for this coffe break as well.

This was a nice surprise. It is always pleasant to have visitors like this. I like Paula’s mother, she is a nice human whom I would like to meet more often.

Coffee breaks in the afternoon are great.

Three Months Have Passed

Three months ago today, Daniel’s aunt Marianne passed away. I never met Marianne, but she was Daniel’s only aunt, a sister of his late father. She never had any children. The trouble is, she had made a will that gave all her possessions to a cousin, not to her nephews and nieces, one of which was Daniel. The cousin has stalled everything, probably not interested in taking care of what was left from Daniel’s aunt. Daniel and his brother and sisters are quite annoyed, but they cannot do anything. At least Daniel does not have to spend any time taking care of what his aunt left. There are advantages to this too. Daniel never calculated with inheriting anything from his aunt. He is just annoyed that the cousinhas stalled the process and nothing is taken care of like it should have. His brother and sisters are equally annoyed. I hope the aunt will rest in peace, eventually.

Good Qualification Results

Sweden has won its first two qualification games to the next FIFA World Cup in football. It was against lower ranked opponents, but every victory counts. The highest ranked opponent in Sweden’s group is Spain, but spain got a draw in its first game and is, therefore, behind Sweden for now. We hope for the best in the qualification games to come.

It would be fantastic if Sweden won the group. This is not very likely, but it is not impossible.

Summer Time

The song says that summer time is when life is easy. In Swedish, ”summer time” is the name for daylight saving time. I think this is silly. Why would you change the time to go up earlier to get more sunlight? Nevertheless, this is what Sweden does today. I think this should end, vutI am not the one to decide. Life can become easier.

Cutting Down Trees

This was a day when Daniel and Paula’s father Nils-Olov cut down some trees in the garden. It was not the first time they did this, but it is far from every day they do things like this.

The trees makes for good wood, which we can use to burn and warm up the house next winter. It is good to plan ahead.

Meat Sauce

Daniel amde meat sauce for dinner. He is good at making meat sauce.

I tried to get some of Daniel’s tasy meat sauce, but was not allowed to. Paula and Daniel says I am a bit overweight. I guess they are not wrong. Momoko got a lot of meat sauce instead. Paula and Daniel says she needs to add body mass. I guess they are not wrong. It is still difficult for me to see Momoko get so much tasty meat sauce, when I get none.

Walk Without Dogs

Paula did the strangest thing today: she took a walk with her mother, but did not bring any dog. How canyou go on a walk without any dog?

I would gladly have come along, but Paula did not ask me and did not bring me. While Paula came back and was happy, I am sure the walk would have been a greater success with me or any other dog coming along.

Life is just puzzling sometimes.

World Cup Qualifiers

The European qualification games to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in football has begun. Turkey won on home turf versus the Netherlands, 4-2. While the Netherlands got silver in the 2010 World Cup, it did not even qualify to the latest World Cup. It has not fared well over the last years. I am sorry for Botan, a dog from us, who lives in the Netherlands. Even though he may very well root for Sweden, the country of his birth, it cannot be fun that the country where he lives, which has great traditions in the World Cup, does not do better.

Update

Just when I was about to write my blog entry for today, the Ipad wanted to have an update. I accepted, but it took a lot of time. When it was done, I was so annoyed, that I decided to change the subject for my daily blog entry. Why do updates have to take so much time? I am not against updates, if they make the computers ormobile devices work better, but I am annoyed that they occupy the devices and take time. Life could be better with quicker updates.

Volcano Eruptions

Over the last weeks, there have been news of volcano eruptions in both Italy and Iceland. Both are in Europe, so they are not very far away. There are no risk of eruptions in Sweden, however. Our country lies too far away from the borders between tectonic plates in the crust of the Earth. This is good. I think my ancestors in Japan had enough of volcano eruptions, there are some of them there. Inded, the sacred Mount Fuji is a volcano. You do not have to have a volcano to find sacred stuff, though. In a way, the absence of any volcanois a sacred thing.

Boiled Eggs

Daniel boiled some eggs for lunch, because this is what Paula wished. When the eggs were done, Paula turned them down and had other things for lunch. This is crazy, eggs are really tasty food. I cannot understand what Paula was thinking. Then again, nobody can force her to eat, when she chamges her mind.

A Shiba Who Can Do Tricks

Here is a video of a Shiba who can do some tricks. I do not know myself how these tricks are done, but it is nice to see a video of it.

Making Friends

Piffy, our Chihuahua friend, and Laura,or visiting Shiba, have started to become friends. They shared some treats in the kitchen this evening. Even if Piffy did bark a little,it is evident that she is starting to getting used to Laura. Laura has tried to be friendly the whole time, and have some success in doing so now. This pleases me, there is no reason Piffy and Laura should not be friends, and it makes Piffy bark less. Life turns better.

Unnecessary Barking

Our Chihuahua friend Piffy is fond of barking. Itis a breed trait. Her breed are alarming watch dogs. It may go too far, though.

Laura is visiting us for a couple of days. She was born here and she has visited us before, not least when she had her litter this autumn. Piffy is barking at Laura every time she sees her. This is unnecessary. Laura is a nice dog, she does not deserve to be barked at. I hope Piffy will get used to Laura soon and stop her barking.

Frost

In the early morning hours, we go out onour morning walks. Itis frost on the ground. Itis cold, but itis beautiful.

Later in the day, when the sun is shining, it is warmer and the frost is gone. It is still beautiful, but in another way.

Life is beautiful. We should all try to see the beauty in every situation.

Dog Visitor

Last weekend, Paula’s nephew Arvid visited us. Now, the dog Laura is here for a visit. Sheis an Aangenaam dog, so she belongs here. She was here last autumn for a litter of pups. Now she isin heat again, and Paula and Daniel hope to breed her with Gunnar once again. We will have to see how successful this will be.

Plumber

We have had a plumber here, to make the water flow as it is supposed to.

I have heard that the English word plumber comes from the latim word plublum for lead. Earlier, pipes for water were sealed with lead. We are lucky it is not like this anymore, because lead is poisonous.

The water is good.

Legal Measures to Preserve Wolves

Wolves in Mexico are protected by law, but there are poachers who kill ome anyway. Researchers have found that more wolves disappeared during periods of relaxed legal protection. Those who disappeared were probably victims of poachers. The researchers conclude that consistently strong protection for endangered predators reasonably lead to less poaching. This is contrary to theories that legalizing might reduce poaching.

I believe in what the researchers state is probably true. I also think a strong legal protection is the morally right way to go. Wolves deserve to live. Poachers, not so much.

Planned Visit

Arvid came by this afternoon, and will stay until tomorrow morning. Arvid is Paula’s six hear old nephew. He is a very nice young man.

We played board games, watched a movie, had pancakes, and watched the final Swedish qualification round to the Eurovision Song Contest. It was a very nice evening.

A Nice Surprise Visit

Late tonight, at about 19 o’clock, Paula’s sister Mia came by. This was a nice surprise. It just happened, and I am glad it did. Mia is such a pleasant person to be with.

Daniel made some tea and we all sat down and talked for a bit in the living room.

I wish we had surprise visits of nice people more often.

Momoko

Our Miniature Poodle friend Momoko went to the veterinarian today with Daniel. Momoko turns fourteen years old today, but the veterinarian said she was healthy for her age. She will get some treatment for her teeth in April, but that is about it. We are all happy that the friendly Momoko will be with us for quite some time to come. We all love her.

Nämndeman

Paula made her first appearance as a ”nämndeman” at the Örebro court today. She loved it!

There was one case which disturbed her, however. A woman had mistreated her cats badly. Paula told us pictures of the cats were horrible. The woman was sentenced for the crime.

Not Today, Tomorrow

Apparently, it was tomorrow that Paula makes her first appearance as a ”nämndeman”. Stay tuned, I will tell you more about this tomorrow.

It is a bit disturbing to have the wrong assumption about what day something will happen. It is, however, worse if you believe it is the day after the true day, instead of the day before it. I guess Paula knew the correct day all along.

Justice of the Peace

Paula will have her first assignment as ”nämndeman” tomorrow. You may call this a justice of the peace, or a permanent juror, if you like. It is the layman judges in the courts of law of Sweden. Paulais looking forward to this. We hope it will live up to her expectations. There will surely be more to tell tomorrow.

All Norwegian Skiers

A Norwegian won the classic long distance ski competition Vasaloppet this morning. It is 90 km long. Since 2013, there have only been Norwegian winners.

This afternoon, the skiing world championships ended with the 50 km competition for men. A Norwegian won, before another Norwegian.

It is crazy how dominant Norwayis as a cross country skiing nation. My grandfather Kuro would have been proud. He was born in Norway and always rooted for Norway. I have thought a lot about him today.

Second Chance

Some of the songs which did not do very well in their first qualification rounds to the Swedish qualifyer to the Eurovision Song Contest had a chance for revenge tonight. We watched it, but were not very excited over every competition. I still miss songs about dogs.

Danger

My mother Hailey always supported Japan, and was often opposed to the present regime of China. The communist regime of China threatens Japan, oppresses its own people, condones the oppression of dogs at dog meat festivals and the like, and seizes ever more control of Hong Kong. I am also not fond of China. I wish China was not so powerful, so it was more possible to do something about its horrible regime. If you eat dogs, you just do not have any ethical boundaries left.

Light in the Mornings

This week on the morning walks, Daniel has not had tohave his reflective vest. Daylight is around when we walk. I like daylight. As a dog, I can see quite well in the faint light of night, but daylight is still better. The lighter mornings also promise that summer is coming. The warm weather of summer is nice. It was a little colder outdoors today than in the recent days, but this is a temporary setback on our way to summer. I feel glad.

Cul-de-sac

Our house is on a cul-de-sac. You can only exit the street one way. This is temporary, while the town is building a new water tower by oneend of the street. When going by car, we have a longer way than usual to get into the centre of the town. This temporary traffic solution has been here for a very long time now. I wonder when the street will be re-opened again by the new tower. It is strange that it must take such a long time to build the new water tower.

Pizza

Paula and Daniel went out for lunch today, Daniel working from home and Paula studying, but having an errand after lunch. Daniel came backhome with leftovers from recently baked pizzas. The leftovers went into our food bowls. I love pizza, so this was a great lunch for us too. It is something special about how a good meal can make the rest of the day better.

Artist’s Abducted Dogs Back Home

The artist Lady Gaga has three dogs, two of were abducted some days ago. She was not home, and her dog keeper was shot and hurt when the two dogs were abducted. Luckily, the dog keeper survived and the two abducted dogs have been brought back home. Allis well that ends well. I hope the dog keeper will make a full recovery, and that Lady Gaga will comehome to care for her dogs the way they deserve after their horrible ordeal.
