Wolves in Mexico are protected by law, but there are poachers who kill ome anyway. Researchers have found that more wolves disappeared during periods of relaxed legal protection. Those who disappeared were probably victims of poachers. The researchers conclude that consistently strong protection for endangered predators reasonably lead to less poaching. This is contrary to theories that legalizing might reduce poaching.
I believe in what the researchers state is probably true. I also think a strong legal protection is the morally right way to go. Wolves deserve to live. Poachers, not so much.
