Cold Nights

It was cold outside tonight. We had to endure a colder morning walk this morning, than most of this winter. It is ironic that it is mich colder by the end of March, than ot was throughout January. The weather is never predictable. This is what makes it interesting.

Postponed Olympic Games

My mother always wanted to live to see the Olympic Games from Tokyo this summer. Unfortunately, she got to ill and left us late last year. It would not have changed much, had she lived on for another year. The Tokyo Olympic Games are postponed for one year. This is due to the corona virus pandemic disease.

Daniel believes the Olympic Games should have rather been cancelled, alternatively postponed for four years. He says there should be four years between Olympic Games. The term Olympic Games means games every four years, if I understand it correctly. I think Daniel has a point, even though I would not want to wait for four years to see the Olympic Games from Tokyo. I do not know if I am still around four years from now, but I believe I am next summer.

Now we have to hope the pandemic is over next summer.

The Shortest Day

This is the shortest day of the year.

You could say the winter solstice is shorter. If you count the hours when the Sun is in the sky, this is correct. However, if you count the total number of hours from midnight to midnight, the winter solstice has 24 hours, while we have 23 hours today. This is because we change to Daylight Saving Time today.

I cannot see the point of Daylight Saving Time. Humans may understand it better. They are the ones who care about the clock. I just know it will be dark again in the morning tomorrow. This does not feel nice, but we live with it, because our humans do.

Sweden as a Good Example

This is an interesting article about how the Swedish culture and efforts to stop the spread of the corona virus pandemic may be a good example.

It is always nice to read about Sweden in foreign mass media. It shows that, despite being such a small country, Sweden has an impact on the world.

I do think we are doing a lot of good things, when fiting the pandemic. There may be bad things, too. Time will tell, and we may learn from it until the next time.

Priorities

A sister of Daniel told him tonight, that she was on the lookout for a pup. When Daniel asked her what kind of dog she was looking for, she just changed the subject. This was a strange move. What could be more important for humans, than discussing dogs, of the past, presemt, and future? I do not know Daniel’s sister well, she probably had a good reason. I hope she did.

Working from Home

Daniel worked from home before noon today. In the current crisis due to the corona virus, people are encouraged to work from home if they can.

Of course, as dogs, we work from home almost all the time. We watch the house, which cannot be done anywhere but at home. It was nice to have Daniel at home early in the day, however. As far as I am concerned, he may very well work from home much more.

Pictures of Dogs in Cars

The British TV show Top Gear has made a compilation of photographies of dogs in cars. It is very well worth watching.

I like going by car. It takes you quickly to many places far away. The ride itself is comfortable. It is quality time spent with your humans. What is there not to like?

Late Night

When Paula works the afternoon shift, she comes home around nine in the evening. Then she and Danieloften talk and eat a little. The nights often turn late, before we go to bed. This is what happened tonight. I do not have any problems with this, I can sleep in the day tomorrow. Daniel is occasionally tired the day after. I guess he have to be more determined on going to bed earlier.

Another Date

Hello, Gerstuhl here!

I had another date with Fuji this afternoon. It was as good as the first one.

As far as I have learned, there is a higher probability of getting pups, when you make more attempts. I could meet Fuji more times. There will, however, not be any more attempts this time. We have to hope two attempts are enough. Our humans think so, anyway.

Fuji!

Hello, Gerstuhl here!

I believe I have met the love of my life. He is a bit older than me, but a very handsome and fit black and tan Shiba. His name is Fuji.

When it was almost noon today, Paula, Daniel, and Mum came by my home. I got to go with them, to stay with them for a week, when my humans go off for a holiday on their own. On our way back to Örebro, we stopped by Köping, where Fuji lives these days. He used to live with Paula and Daniel when I lived there, but I never paid much attention to him. Today, I discovered a new Fuji.

If we are lucky, Fuji and I will get a litter of black and tan Shiba pups in May.

R.I.P. Calvin

My uncle Calvin has left this world. He was very bad at the vey end,you could tell. I will still miss him.

Calvin was not really my uncle, but he was a little younger than my mother and had a litter of pups with her. He was one of the dogs who taught me things, when I was a pup. He was a good dog, even though he never got along with Javier.

I wish Calvin all the best in the afterlife.

The Virus

Everybody speaks about the corona virus. I am getting tired of it. As far as I know, it does not affect dogs, so who cares? 🤔

Eurovision Song Contest Cancelled

Eurovision Song Contest 2020 is cancelled, due to the risk for the spread of the corona virus.

It is not that I am very interested of the contest, but it is still a rather important part of show business in the world. We usually watch it on TV. It is the biggest song contest there is. This is the first time since 1956 that the contest is cancelled.

Many sport events are also cancelled or postponed. the UEFA Euro 2020 football championship is postponed until next summer. We have to wait and see what will happen to the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Where the viruses are

The corona virus can survive for rather long periodsof time outside of the bodies of humans. Thisis one way the infection can spread. This article mentions some details. One detail I found interesting was that a virus can survive for different lengths of time, dependimg on what type of surface it is on. It survives for a longer time on steal than on cardboard. I wonder why, the article gives not even theories of the reason. I liked the article, anyway.

Morran’s Birthday

Our Affenpinscher friend Morran is celebrating her fifth birthday today. We all congratulated her.

I was a little disappointed that she was the one who got the most treats. It is actually only natural that the dog who celebrates birthday get the most treats, but I cannot help feeling a bit disappointed, anyway.

Happy birthday, Morran!

Cancelled Competitions

The Swedish club for owners of dogs of spitz breeds, Svenska spets- och urhundsklubben, would have had a dog show today. It was cancelled earlier this week, due to the spread of the corona virus. I believe this was the right decision to make.

The Swedish Ice Hockey Association has decided to cancel the rest of the ice hockey season. No players will be Swedish champions. No teams will be moved up or relegated down in the series. I believe this was also the right decision to make.

The spread of the corona virus has been declared a pandemic. We all have to do what we can to minimize the spread of the disease.

Mia and Morran

Paula’s sister Mia visited us this evening. The humans had sea food for dinner.

Our Affenpinscher friend Morran occupied Mia for most of the evening. I would have loved to spend some more time with Mia, but Morran was there with her instead. I can understand Morran, Mia is such a nice person. I was a little jealous, however, Couldn’t there be enough of Mia for all of us? Perhaps we can see Mia once again soon, and I can occupy her. Time will tell.

Readers

If the corona virus makes society close down, as it seems to be doing now, perhaps more people will read blogs. When people stay home, they can be entertained on line. Blogs can entertain people. Perhaps this blog will get more readers, thanks to the corona virus. If this is the case, there is at least one good outcome of the virus.

Corona Virus

A new virus is spreading across the world, making humans sick and some humans die. It is called corona, because it looks like a crown in microscopes.

The Swedish government has outlawed gatherings with more than five hundred people. Sport events, meeting, et cetera have been cancelled.

I hope Paula and Daniel comes out of this with their health intact or restored.

Lasagne

Paula came home early this afternoon. She started to make lasagne, and once Daniel came home, it was already done.

When it was time for dog food, some of us got a lot of meat sauce that was left over from the lasagne production. I did not get any. I was disappointed, but I knew I was better than getting angry.

Sometimes, you just have to admit that there are others who deserve great food. I will get it the next time. Being a great personality, means you can allow for others to get the good stuff. This is what I did today. The dogs who got the little meat sauce there was, did deserve it. I am happy for them.

Early Evening

Paula has had a cold today. She has rested most of the day and takes an early evening. This is always a good strategy for a nice, soft day and evening. All of us dogs accompanied Paula and made her better by our presence and love. It is nice to be able to help.

Grooming

There are days when I am more happy than usually, that I am a Shiba. As a Shiba, I never have to have my coat groomed and cut. There may be the occasional combing when I shed my coat, but this is all

Our Affenpinscher friend Morran was groomed for two hours tonight. I could just watch it and feel a little sorry for her.

Sunday Work

Paula worked today. As a nurse, she may have to work any day of the week, because people are not just bad in the weekdays.

While Paula was away, the rest of us worked at home. We cleaned the floors and some other things. It  feels better when the house is cleaner.

Skyfall

We are looking at Javier's movie, Skyfall. Javier’s official name is Aangenaam Skyfall, after this movie. It is a great James Bond movie, very exciting and well made.

Peanut, who is from England, is happy that it is about a British hero. He also claims they drive on the correct side of the road when they are in Britain. He is funny sometimes.

Expensive

The car does not work, there is something wrong with the engine. It needs new parts and some work. The garage has told us the cost, it will be much more expensive than any veterinary care either of us has ever had. If you think veterinarians are expensive, try car repair men.

First Thursday in March

The Swedish province Småland has a peculiar dialect, where people often do not pronounce r. This can be noticed more than usually, when they pronounce the first Thursday in March in Swedish. There is also a special pronounciation of the Swedish cake princess cake (prinsesstårta). Thus, you can celebrate this Thursday with this cake. Paula and Daniel did this. I wish I could have had some cake, even though I was satisfied with the dog food and minced meat we did get. It was a good day.

Why Do I Have To?

There are days when I regret taking over the blogof my mother. It is a daily blog, so I have to come up with something to write avout every day. My mother created the blog and chose it herself. I do it to honour her. It is still my mother Hailey’s blog, Daily Hailey. Normally, I love to write in the blog for the love of my mother, and because it is fun. Nevertheless, there are days when I regret this responsibility. Today is one of those days, when I do regret the responsibility. I guess it will feel better tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Stomach Ache

Paula had a sore stomach tonight. I am so sorry for her. It would be better if, when Paula lies in bed to rest, none of us dogs would walkor jump on her tummy. Unfortunately, some of us happen to do this – by mistake, of course. I hope Paula will feel better tomorrow. Life is better, when hou do not have to worry about a family member who is not feeling well.

Going Off as Chairman

Daniel has been chairman of the board of his local chapter of the political party for ten years. He quit today. We wish to have a little bit more time with him from now on.

Cats

Two kittens have moved in with us. They are interesting and cute, but a little scared of us dogs. We have to let them take their time to get accustomed to us and this place. When they are, they will surely be great additions to our little family. I am looking forward to getting to know these cats better.
